Die Geschichte vom Zappel-Philipp

Papa schaut seinen Sohn Philipp an. Papa ist ernst.

Dad looks at his son Philipp. Dad is serious.

Mama sagt nichts. Sie schaut nur auf den Tisch.

Mom says nothing. She just looks at the table.

Philipp hört nicht auf Papa. Er kann nicht ruhig sitzen. Er schaukelt auf seinem Stuhl.

Philipp does not listen to Dad. He cannot sit still. He rocks on his chair.

Papa sagt: „Philipp, das ist nicht gut.“

Dad says, “Philipp, that is not good.”

Philipp schaukelt sehr stark. Plötzlich fällt der Stuhl nach hinten. Philipp fällt auch.

Philipp rocks very hard. Suddenly the chair falls backwards. Philipp falls too.

Der Vater schaut seinen Sohn Philipp an. Er fragt sich: „Sitzt Philipp heute ruhig am Tisch?“

The father looks at his son Philipp. He wonders, “Will Philipp sit quietly at the table today?”

Die Mutter sagt nichts. Sie schaut nur auf den Tisch.

The mother says nothing. She just looks at the table.

Aber Philipp hört nicht auf seinen Vater. Er zappelt und schaukelt auf seinem Stuhl. Er kann einfach nicht ruhig sitzen.

But Philipp does not listen to his father. He fidgets and rocks on his chair. He simply cannot sit still.

Der Vater sagt: „Philipp, das finde ich nicht gut.“

The father says, “Philipp, I do not like that.”

Aber Philipp schaukelt weiter sehr wild auf seinem Stuhl. Plötzlich fällt der Stuhl nach hinten um.

But Philipp keeps rocking very wildly on his chair. Suddenly the chair tips over backwards.

Der Vater sah seinen Sohn Philipp ernst an. Er dachte: „Ob Philipp heute wohl ruhig am Tisch sitzen wird?“

The father looked at his son Philipp seriously. He thought, “I wonder whether Philipp will sit quietly at the table today.”

Die Mutter sagte nichts. Sie schaute nur still über den Tisch.

The mother said nothing. She only looked silently across the table.

Aber Philipp hörte nicht auf die Ermahnung seines Vaters. Er zappelte auf seinem Stuhl, wackelte hin und her und konnte einfach nicht still sitzen.

But Philipp did not listen to his father’s warning. He fidgeted on his chair, wobbled back and forth and simply could not sit still.

„Philipp, das gefällt mir gar nicht“, sagte der Vater streng.

“Philipp, I do not like that at all,” said the father sternly.

Philipp wackelte so wild, dass sein Stuhl plötzlich nach hinten umkippte. Er schrie und versuchte, sich am Tischtuch festzuhalten, aber es half nichts.

Philipp wobbled so wildly that his chair suddenly tipped over backwards. He screamed and tried to hold on to the tablecloth, but it was no use.

Der Vater sah seinen Sohn ernst an und fragte sich: „Wird Philipp heute wohl ruhig am Tisch sitzen?“

The father looked at his son seriously and wondered, “Will Philipp sit quietly at the table today?”

Die Mutter sagte nichts, sondern blickte nur still über den Tisch.

The mother said nothing, but only gazed silently across the table.

Philipp ignorierte die Worte seines Vaters. Er zappelte auf seinem Stuhl, schaukelte hin und her, strampelte mit den Füßen und konnte einfach nicht still sitzen.

Philipp ignored his father’s words. He fidgeted in his chair, rocked back and forth, kicked his feet and simply could not sit still.

„Philipp, das gefällt mir überhaupt nicht“, sagte der Vater streng.

“Philipp, I do not like that at all,” said the father sternly.

Philipp schaukelte so wild auf seinem Stuhl, dass dieser plötzlich nach hinten umkippte. Im Fallen schrie er und versuchte, sich am Tischtuch festzuhalten, aber es war vergeblich.

Philipp rocked so wildly in his chair that it suddenly tipped over backwards. As he fell he screamed and tried to hold on to the tablecloth, but it was in vain.
