Die Sterntaler is a short tale about a deeply pious, orphaned girl who wanders into the countryside with nothing but a piece of bread and the clothes she is wearing. Along the way, she meets several freezing, starving people and selflessly gives away her bread and all her garments until she is completely naked. Standing alone in the dark forest, stars suddenly fall from the night sky and turn into silver coins. She finds herself wearing a new, fine linen shirt to gather the coins in, leaving her wealthy for the rest of her life.
